wumft When I first heard Mare Cognitum, I was convinced that there was this awesome bedroom black metal scene of comparable quality I'd just been missing out on until then. Well, after spending a lot of time on Bandcamp, I've found a lot of great stuff, but Mare Cognitum still tops the list by far, and exceeds most of the major-label output I've heard in the past few years.

A vessel is born The wailing of cosmic release A severance of blight Above atrophied tongues Forced into itself Upon stygian wings Through visionless wander Rife with mesmeric whisper Blighted by abscess An intricate labyrinth of serpentine shrines The seed of reason Swept up amongst the somber casting of stones A vessel is born The wailing of cosmic release A screaming, writhing form Bearing legions of boils Flesh wrought with lesions Crawls from ebony void Collapsing to essence Within itself, nothing Persists through nonbeing To twisted dimensions Ashen it comes, before the thrones of eyes, Delivered from epochs of pierced thought, Freed from perpetual abyss, Longing for calamitous silence. Through embryonic doorways, Grow crystallized memory. While within these wombs, Dwell hosts of universes

Beneath the golden canvas of dawn A monolith of stone to sacred wisdom forged within the unknown Here remains a dying flame These solemn watchers groan beneath the pines Imbibe the storm Inhale the ashes They will drown in fire Let it also consume you Glean the ashen cinders Of these wretched bones Cast them into the water Let the wind embrace their memory An abscess to be dissected Destroyed and forgotten Sepulchral augury of annihilation Divine omens of transcendent destruction The blackened gods of old descend to their final resting place They will drown in fire Let it also consume you Glean the ashen cinders Of these wretched bones Imbibe the storm Inhale the ashes

Burn, star of silence Cast your gaze forth Rear your somber head Devour all creation Enduring within The corners of time Freely wander throughout The sightless existence Swarmed by loss Memory torn Between confusion And endless scorn Entropic horizon Devour space-time Burn, star of silence Cast your gaze forth Rear your somber head Devour all creation

Nascency 07:23
Oh sleeping creation Hide behind curtains of stars Drown your lifeless form In this screaming sea Leaving the arms of time To dream I am born a lidless eye A mirror, a thousand suns A disfigured illusion Of frivolous wonder Leaving the arms of time To dream of creation To weave The sky To mold The earth Void shaping void Into infinite forms To govern its will To create the sublime Light shaping light Into infinite void To destine its form To create its own will Oh sleeping creation Hide behind curtains of stars Drown your lifeless form In this screaming sea I am born a lidless eye A mirror, a thousand suns A disfigured illusion Of frivolous wonder Soon shall this light fade And nourish the stars To plant the dark suns Of future creation

Loathsome Wrathful Almighty Overlord This place Devours life Never moving Never changing Son of Suffering Father of torment Mother of Pain Goddess of Shadow A lifeless plane of stretching boundless infinite sadness Bleeding death from luminous wounds A gash in the void of barren darkness Destitute corruption, destiny of life I marvel at the vastness of the endless void Eternal spirits of beings lost in time Confusion, trapped in the sphere of space No more alive than I Bastardized Desolate Sorrowful Holocaust This place Devours life Never moving Never changing Son of Suffering Father of torment Mother of Pain Goddess of Shadow Son of Suffering Father of torment Mother of Pain Goddess of Shadow This place Devours life Never moving Never changing

Everlasting fire Ruin like none have ever seen Crystals wrought from flesh Shimmering in loss forever this augur Shall herald a time Where thoughts turn to dust from eons of famine If the sky could speak And hear the earth And mend the stars Behold, the scars Of reborn paradox Collapse of vision An extraconscious lucidity Ultra-luminous In all its majesty Oscillate within A verduous mire If the sky could speak And hear the earth And mend the stars My eyes ablaze Above the sea To drink the brilliance Of this display I clutch my grieving breath and whisper my end I clutch my grieving breath and whisper my end
